A Blog Post Every Three Years

I started this blog roughly three years ago (or so WordPress tells me anyway) with the intention of blogging about country music on a regular basis. That obviously didn’t happen, seeing as how I posted one time on the day I started this, and haven’t logged in since. Again, that was three years ago (I know, I’m a very committed fellow aren’t I?)

I think I actually, for some strange reason, have two followers on here. I’m honestly not really sure because I don’t even know how to check that stuff, but I digress. With the two followers that I may or may not have, it is clear that this post will likely not be seen by many people. Do people even still read blogs? And by blogs, I don’t mean the “10 Random and Stupid Facts About Game of Thrones” blogs that pop up on Facebook. You guys know the crap I’m talking about. They’re the ones that go something along the lines of “#1: Kit Harrington drank a bottle of water while filming the third season. #2: On the second day of filming Season 2, Emilia Clarke had 10 fingers. #3 Peter Dinklage once talked on his cell phone from 1:35pm-1:41pm while on set, ect… To be honest, if it wasn’t for text messaging, our schools would probably be better off teaching video editing, rather than literacy. In fact, while we’re at it, let’s just shut down the schools and give K-12 students YouTube accounts instead. You can learn anything on YouTube, usually in half the time that it takes to learn it from books. To caveat all of that, no I do not think that either of those are actually good ideas. Also, I find it a little sad, but mostly just comical that I had to mention that caveat. But, on the rare chance that people actually read this, there will be some captain obvious asshole that takes it a bit too literally, and then will post his or her typical asshole(ish) comments. There will also be an asshole comment on some spelling or grammatical error, I’m sure. Let’s face it, negative comments are inevitable. In my best Ned Stark voice “Assholes are Coming.” Wait, can you even comment on these?

Now that I’ve rambled on about nothing for almost, roughly, close to, in the ballpark of exactly 392 words, I will get to the point. I fully intend on staying active with this blog. I probably will not write solely on country music though. Actually, yeah, no, wait.. What?? Oh, yeah, no, I won’t be writing on country music too often. Country music is a mess anyway, and let’s be real. Nobody wants to read about country music. Besides, the people that like country music can’t read anyway, can they? I like country music, but I also had to have my brother type all of this out for me. He likes rap and hip hop. He also doesn’t help around the farm and has been on welfare for quite some time. But hey, at least he can read and write. Am I implying that there’s a correlation between rap music fans and welfare? Maybe, maybe not, but probably not. That’s another situation where somebody is probably going to take something way too seriously. Damn, I just rambled again. Oh well, back to the point. I’ll probably just write about country/outdoor stuff in general. So, if you don’t like hunting, fishing, guns, or being American, you should probably just leave now. Either that, or leave your asshole(ish) “guns are bad,” and “hunting is the devil’s work” comments. I’m cool either way. Then again, there’s probably a better chance that I’ll just wait three years to login again, and then write something about nothing. Who knows?

Brantley Gilbert is a True Artist

Brantley Gilbert    Allow me to start off by saying that Brantley Gilbert is a real musician and a true artist of music. I’ve spent too many hours arguing over the very simple difference between a musician/artist and a singer. Some people just don’t get it, and it’s too bad. A singer sings and an artist creates art. It’s as simple as that. Now, the mainstream country fans love the music playing on their favorite radio station and that music is, without a doubt, art. But that music is not always the art of the person that made it famous. I’m not saying that some of the most popular country artists of today don’t record their own songs from time to time; of course they do. However, it is too often that a well-known singer is recording and releasing a song written by somebody else. The problem with that is, the singer may have a great voice, the song may sound fantastic on the radio and it may profit them several thousand dollars. But how can you really put your heart and soul into singing lyrics that you’ve never experienced? Imagine a sports analyst for ESPN reporting on a football game that he never saw or a doctor trying to treat a disease that he’s never seen but only heard or read about in books. A song (especially in country music) is nothing more than a story in poetic form with a melody in the background, and this is Brantley’s bread and butter. Not only is the man a genuine poet and lyrical genius, he is true to his fans and most of all, true to himself. Every song he sings is more than just a simple song that pays the bills. He is telling a story about none other than his own life. Now don’t get me wrong, it is a great thing that singers record songs written by others. It gives songwriters opportunities that they couldn’t have dreamt of. However, the bottom line is this; Brantley Gilbert is one of very few ARTISTS in today’s crazy world of country music. He has lived the songs he sings and who better to tell a story than the man that lived it?
